Good Morning Chlorine

Today was my first morning swim practice in some time. And I actually forgot how much I miss it. Weird I know. In high school I use to have mornings three times a week at 5:15 and so I use to have to wake up at 4:30. And that was brutal.

Now I am swimming masters at my school and it starts at 6am, so I dont have to get up until 5:30. And believe me this is a huge difference and makes it doable.

Unless you have been a swimmer, and by swimmer I mean competitive dedicated, have no life, constantly smell like chlorine no matter how many showers or how much perfume you put one swimmer, you dont understand morning practices.

And I hated them in high school, which is a major reason I quit competitive so young but now the smell of chlorine and diving in to the pool before the sun comes up and anyone else is awake is actually exciting to me.

That was my favorite part of mornings growing up. I actually started them when I was thirteen and I thought it was so cool that I had worked out before school and in many case worked out more then most people would all day before they even got out bed.

Now since I dont have class until 9:30 or 12:30 (depending on the day) its nice because I can come home, shower, have breakfast, LOTS of coffee, get things done before class etc.

I am actually excited about swimming now. I am going to go between 5 and 6 days a week. (Fridays and Saturdays I am doing afternoons though!).

And today, my first practice in a few years, was a timed 1,500 (thats a little less then a mile) and I went 21:02. (the average timing is much different then running a mile) Which is pathetic and slow but the fact I didn't drown is an accomplishment.
